Russia plans to hold Tchaikovsky Music Competition despite international ban

The Russian Ministry of Culture announced that the Tchaikovsky competition will be held this year as usual despite the decision taken by the International Federation of Music Competitions regarding its exclusion from the list of international competitions.

A spokesman for the Ministry told TASS News Agency that  “The exclusion of the Tchaikovsky competition from the International Federation of International Competitions will not affect its holding in Moscow, knowing that the competition has been held for 60 years and is considered a national pride for Russia and will not be affected by any decisions, even if it is international,” noting that the competition is still open to accepting submissions from other countries.

The International Federation of Music Competitions had previously announced the exclusion of the Tchaikovsky competition from its membership.

This competition was established in 1958 and the International Federation approved its membership in 1971.
