Parliament renews its full confidence in the ability of people to strengthen their solid national unity to confront terrorism

DAMASCUS, April.17, (ST)-The People’s Assembly [Parliament] said  that Independence Day [AKA Evacuation Day] on the 17th  of April in 1946 is a bright page in Syria’s history, representing the heroism of the Syrian people, their sacrifices and resilience for many years which led to the evacuation of the last occupying French soldier from the homeland.

“What Syria has been exposed to and what it is being subjected to today since more than 10 years from various fierce military, media and political wars, in addition to the unjust economic blockade imposed by the forces of evil, terrorism and aggression, particularly the US and the usurping Zionist entity and their agents, are desperate attempts to impose a colonial situation in the region by working on weakening Syria’s active role in the region and the world to serve the malicious Western agendas that aim to dissuade Syria from its principled stances,” the parliament said in a statement issued on the 76th anniversary of the Evacuation Day.

The statement added that the resilience of the Syrian people, the heroism of the army, and the wisdom of our leader, President Bashar Al-Assad, were the solid base on which the illusions of the conspirators were shattered, according to the Syrian Arab News Agency (SANA).

“We renew our full confidence in the ability of our loyal people to mobilize their capabilities, strengthen their solid national unity, and renew the epics of immortal liberation by confronting terrorism and all forms of conspiracy and aggression,” the statement indicated.

On the same occasion, the central leadership of the Arab Socialist Ba’ath Party issued a statement saluting the martyrs of the evacuation and the martyrs of the ongoing confrontation against the forces of hegemony, Zionism and terrorism. It asserted that Syrians have always been at the forefront when it comes to confronting the forces of colonialism in its old and new forms for the sake of liberation and independence.

The ASBP’s leadership pointed out that the world will witness the birth of a new, more balanced world order, and what it is experiencing today is the pain of its birth, which is necessary and inevitable while awaiting a new era.

The General Federation of Trade Unions also issued a statement saying that the Syrians’ struggle has not stopped after independence and it continues to face colonialism and its hateful schemes.
