Syrian-Russian talks to enhance cooperation in the educational field

On April 11th, the Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Dr. Bassam Ibrahim, met with the head of the Christian World Union in Russia Alexei Cherkezov and the accompanying delegation

The two sides discussed strengthening scientific and research relations with Russia and teaching the Russian language in Syria and developing the capabilities of its teachers while supporting the Russian Language Department at Damascus University. 

 

Minister Ibrahim stressed the importance of Syrian-Russian relations at the political, economic, educational and cultural levels, pointing to the distinguished scientific level enjoyed by Russian universities, which produced many scientific cadres working and studying in Syrian universities and higher institutes.

Minister Ibrahim noted the grants offered by the Russian side to Syrian students and the important role played by the Christian World Union through the establishment of student activities and camps that contribute to developing capabilities, exchanging visits between the two sides and holding scientific conferences

Minister Ibrahim called for the signing of more agreements that contribute to the development and support of the process educational and research. 

In turn, Cherkezov expressed the Russian side’s readiness to cooperate in various projects, qualify cadres, activate a number of agreements and implement them on the ground to serve the Russian and Syrian peoples

Cherkezov stressed the need to strengthen the existing cooperation between Syrian and Russian universities and work to open new horizons that include all fields. 

The meeting was attended by Dr. Fadia Deeb, Deputy Minister for Scientific Research and Hospitals Affairs, Dr. Abdul Latif Hanano, Deputy Minister for Educational Affairs, and Dr. Aqil Mahfoud, Director of Cultural Relations in the Ministry.
