Foreign Ministry confirms that Israeli aggression is systematic and calls for international intervention

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates has condemned the blatant aggression launched by Israeli warplanes on April 9th on some positions in the central region of Syria, which was confronted by the Syrian air defenses

The Ministry said that Israel’s continuation in launching these attacks reaches the level of systematic and stereotypical aggression. This requires immediate intervention from the United Nations General Secretariat and the Security Council.

On April 10th, the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates, Dr. Faisal Miqdad, sent an official letter of protest to Antonio Guterres, Secretary-General of the United Nations, against the recent Israeli aggression

Minister Miqdad saidThe Syrian Arab Republic reserves the right to respond by appropriate means sanctioned by international law and the Charter of the United Nations, and that Israel continues to launch these attacks. The attacks have reached the level of systematic and stereotypical aggression, which calls for immediate intervention from the General Secretariat and the Security Council in order to protect and preserve the Agreement on Separation of Forces and Disengagement of Forces signed in Geneva on May 31, 1974

The Agreement was under the auspices of the United Nations and in the presence of representatives of the governments of permanent members of the Security Council. The Agreement provides in its first paragraph for a cease-fire on land, sea and air.”

In his message, Minister Miqdad stressed that the Syrian government’s position is based on rejecting aggression and exposing peace and security in the Middle East to real dangers, as long as Syria has warned of the consequences of its continuation, especially as it represents a threat to international peace and security and a violation of the principles of international law and international legitimacy.

Minister Miqdad indicated that failure to condemn these repeated attacks has encouraged (Israel) to persist and expand the cycle of aggression on Syrian territory, and puts the credibility of the United Nations and the effectiveness of its competent bodies to the test.

At the conclusion of his letter, Minister Miqdadcalled on the Secretary-General of the United Nations to clearly condemn these repeated attacks on Syria’s sovereignty. He noted that the Under-Secretary-General for Political Affairs and the United Nations Special Coordinator for the Middle East Peace Process take the initiative to carry out their tasks in this field and raise this serious issue in the Security Council and demand ( Israel) to respect the relevant Security Council resolutions, abide by the terms of the Separation of Forces and Disengagement Agreement signed in Geneva on May 31, 1974, and stop threatening regional and international peace and security.
