Minister Salem meets with the delegation of the World Food Program

On April 10th, the Minister of Internal Trade and Consumer Protection Dr. Amr Salem met with the delegation of the World Food Program of the United Nations,(WFP) headed by Ross Smith, the representative and country director of the program in Syria. 

The two sides discussed ways to develop cooperation  and the implementation of support programs necessary for the work of companies and institutions of the ministry and their needs, especially in areas where the Syrian Arab Army liberated them from terrorist organizations. 

Minister Salem reviewed the heavy burdens that the state bears to provide the necessary needs for all its people of various foodstuffs, especially in light of the unilateral Western economic measures imposed on the Syrian people. 

Minister Salem affirmed the ministry’s readiness with all its directorates and institutions to work and coordinate directly with the WFP to make its work in Syria a success in the service of the citizen and to provide all the required facilities

The Minister expressed the government’s keenness to cooperate with WFP which pays special attention to the rebuilding of what was destroyed by terrorist groups, including the mills and bakeries because of their special importance in the life of the citizen.

In turn, Smith stressed the importance of cooperation with Syrian government institutions to develop the food sectors, specifically the damaged bakeries and mills. 

He said that there are budgets for the rebuilding of the Yarmouk Mill, in addition to some bakeries in the governorates of Daraa and As-Suwayda. 

The WFP delegation includes the Livelihood Support Policy Officer, Dr. Luca Vitura, and the Livelihood Support and Early Recovery Program Officer, Dr. Haitham Al-Ashkar.
