“One Shadow – Three Women”, Feminine True Stories

The Syrian woman, with her contemporary issues and realistic stories, is the heroine of the short documentary presented by Zawaya Gallery under the title: “One Shadow – Three Women”. The documentary is the first directorial attempt for Inas Mehrez.

Mehrez, a graduate of the Technical Institute of Applied Arts, Department of Photography believes that “her film speaks about the reality of women in Syrian society through personal experiences of three generations: a grandmother, a mother and a daughter of the same family. The documentary details their ability to continue facing conditions and challenges within a patriarchal society of dominance by the male individuals.

The director Inas Mehrez chose her own family to convey her ideas.The  grandmother represents  a simple rural woman who worked as a seamstress , while the second age group recounts the case of a mother of four girls gathered in a kitchen, which constitutes their permanent workplace. 

The documentary narrates the premarital and post-motherhood stages with words of reality and truth spontaneously to send a message of support for women while shedding light on the details of life around.
