Damascus cultural centers held workshops on Arabic calligraphy

Ancient Arabic calligraphy was known for centuries as a sophisticated work of beauty, as it is an ancient form of art dating back to the third century . Arabic alphabet is of historical significance and it has a distinguished position .The cultural centers in Abu Rummaneh, Kafr Sousa, and Al-Midan in Damascus hosted workshops on training fifty children and adolescents in the skills of  Arabic calligraphy by specialized trainers over a period of a month and a half.

The cultural activity, which  was held  by “the House of Arabic Calligraphy and Arts” Association  in cooperation with the Directorate of Culture of Damascus, included workshops on  drawing, improving calligraphy, and daily writing of Ruq’ah    , Diwani, and Naskh calligraphy , in addition to a specialized workshop on drawing calligraphy under the supervision of  specialized calligraphers.

 

Head  of the association’s board of directors plastic artist Reem Qoubtan , said in a statement to SANA, “In an effort to devote the idea  of volunteering as a productive and sustainable cultural work, we provided a group of young volunteers an  opportunity to be trainers in these workshops after they had been trained  during the association’s free winter workshop held last year in Damascus’s cultural centers.

The products of the participants in the current workshops aged 10-15, according to Qoubtan , will be displayed in a collective art exhibition after Eid Al-Fitr.

On the purpose of these activities, Muhammad Samir Tahan,  Secretary of “the House of Arabic Calligraphy and Arts” Association stressed that we are keen on rebuilding  Syria , starting with children and youth, and enhancing their loyalty to our culture and heritage  to be active individuals in the future to preserve and protect  the Syrian cultural identity.
