The United Nations announces the start of truce in Yemen

The armistice announced by the United Nations yesterday and agreed upon by all parties in Yemen entered into force today.

The office of the United Nations Special Envoy for Yemen, Hans Grandberg, said in a statement yesterday that” The truce, which will last for two months, began at seven in the evening today, as all offensive military operations by land, air and sea will stop, and 18 ships carrying fuel to Hodeidah will be facilitated, and two flights will be allowed to and from Sanaa airport every week”.

The statement considered that “the success of this initiative depends on the parties’ continued commitment to implementing the armistice agreement, including the humanitarian measures.”

The truce also includes holding a meeting between the parties to agree on opening roads in Taiz and other governorates to improve the freedom of movement of people inside Yemen.

In the same context Grandberg announced yesterday that the parties had responded to the United Nations proposal for a two-month truce in Yemen, during which fuel ships would enter the ports of Hodeidah and flights to and from Sanaa airport.
