The Martyr Ghazwan Abu Zeid Sports Hall was reopened in cooperation between the Ministry of Education and the General Sports Federation following the completion of maintenance and rehabilitation operations, which lasted about three months.
Minister of Education Dr. Darem Tabbaa noted the great efforts made towards the achievement of maintenance work, noting the brilliance of basketball in Homs and its outstanding achievements. At the same time, he pointed out that the government orientation now towards participation and that the completion of the maintenance of the Hall was carried out in partnership with the General Sports Federation.
This method will be generalized to the rest of the governorates, where there will be a joint management of the sports halls of the Ministry of Education to put them in the service of Syrian sport, the minister added.
Head of the General Sports Federation Firas Maalla said, “Homs deserves good basketball facilities , but due to the difficulty of building a Sport Hall at the present time, the Ministry of Education was partnered for the first time to rehabilitate the martyr Ghazwan Abu Zeid’s Hall at an estimated cost of SYP 500 million. It is now equipped with the latest international standards , Maalla continued, pointing out that the rehabilitation of Khalid Bin Al Waleed Stadium is about to be completed, awaiting the completion of the stands , which are expected to be completed next June.
Head of Al-Wathba Club, Dr. Youssef Salameh, noted the importance of completing the maintenance of this hall for basketball lovers in Homs, as it has increased the potential of the clubs working in the governorate to use it in graduating cadres capable of improving the reality of Syrian basketball.
Al-Karama Club member Riad Sayed Suleiman stated that the maintenance of this Hall was a small requirement of Homs athletes and that its current status met expectations, noting the difficulties faced by clubs in training their teams when the Martyr Ghazwan Abu Zeid Hall was out of service.
