Geneva (ST): Syria’s permanent representative to the United Nations and international organizations in Geneva, Ambassador Husam El-Din Ala, stressed during a session of the Human Rights Council that the British draft resolution entitled “The Situation of Human Rights in Syria” is an example of politicized decisions that contradict the principles of objectivity and non-selectivity on which the Council is based.
Ambassador Ala said: The draft resolution is based on the reports of the so-called International Commission of Inquiry, which proved its abject failure in adopting an objective and independent approach to the situation in Syria to serve the interests and objectives of the countries sponsoring its mandate.
Ambassador Ala added: Syria rejects the draft resolution and the extension of the mandate of the so-called International Commission of Inquiry, whose work lacks credibility and objectivity, and calls on Council members to vote against the draft resolution.
