Kremlin:No Specific Timetable for Putin-Zelensky Meeting

The Kremlin has announced today that there is no specific timetable for a possible summit meeting between Russian President Vladimir Putin and Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky.

“Moscow’s position on the possibility of holding this summit remains firm,” Russian presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov told RIA Novosti news agency, explaining that such a meeting can only be held after an agreement is drawn up that allows for an end to hostilities between the two sides.

Peskov added, “We have previously emphasized that the meeting at the highest level must be preceded by completing work on drafting the text of the agreement, coordinating it and signing it by high-level officials, and only after that can we talk about a meeting at the highest level.”

This comes against the backdrop of some progress made in the ongoing negotiations between Russia and Ukraine during a meeting hosted by Istanbul, Turkey, last Tuesday.

Following this round of negotiations, Russia announced the reduction of its military activities in the Kyiv and Chernigov axes, while the Ukrainian delegation confirmed in writing Kyiv’s approval of some of the initial demands put forward by Moscow, including Ukraine’s abandonment of the idea of joining NATO in exchange for receiving security guarantees from a group of countries.
