Brussels (ST): Dozens of people demonstrated in the Belgian capital, Brussels, denouncing the anti-Russian harassment of its citizens in Belgium and the European Union for speaking Russian.
The demonstrators, who gathered in the European Quarter in Brussels in front of the European Commission, emphasized the humanitarian nature of the event, without raising political flags or slogans during it.
The only sign under which the demonstrators gathered was written, “My soul does not bear citizenship.”
Citizens from Russia, Belarus, Moldova and South Ossetia attended the sit-in and talked about the problems they face in communicating with those around them because of the Russian language, while Belgian citizens attended the event to express their support.
Demonstrators told media reporters about dismissals, the need to change school and place of residence due to bullying, threats of assault, unfair treatment by officials and the police’s refusal to accept complaints from Russian speakers.
