The 1st International Women’s Film Festival launched in Damascus

Yesterday evening, the first International Film Festival for Women was launched under the title of “Women Make Change”. 
 
It was organized by the Embassy of the Republic of the Philippines in partnership with the Syrian Diplomatic Club and the Ministry of Culture at the Opera House in Damascus. 
 
The festival, which will last until the 26th of this month, includes 15 films that tell the stories of women who showed courage during peace, war, and made changes in their societies.
 
It will screen films from Syria, Palestine, Chile, Pakistan, the Philippines, Belarus, South Africa, India, Indonesia, Venezuela, and Argentina. 
 
The Minister of culture Dr. Lubana Moushaweh said: “Our celebration is the first after years of war and ten friendly countries are participating in it….We celebrate an amazing art that attracted millions of people around the world, the art of cinema that was created like all other arts.”
 
Chargee’d Affaires of the Embassy of the Republic of the Philippines in Syria Atty Vida Soraya S Verzosa said:”We celebrate women’s month. The film festival is dedicated to all mothers, and it is our modern version of the storyteller, who is famous in Syria, to convey strong lessons to all who listen.”
 
“11 countries are participating in the festival, and we chose the slogan “Women Make Change” because we believe that empowering women will make change and will enhance the role of women in society.” Ms. Vida added.
 
For her part, Ms. Reneva Fourie, the President of the Diplomatic Club, the wife of the South African Ambassador in Damascus, indicated that the festival is a great opportunity to exchange the cultures of the participating countries, which are part of the Syrian Diplomatic Club activities “.
 
 At the end of opening ceromony,Honor certificates were distributed to the heads of diplomatic missions in the embassies.
