With the participation of Syria, the coordination meeting of the sixth edition of the Arab Reading Challenge initiative, launched by the United Arab Emirates, has been held in Dubai on the 24th of March 2022.
The meeting, which came after the end of the competition’s progression stage, discussed the preparations for the qualifying stage, which will start next May, announcing the names of the challenge champions at the level of each participating country next August, and the names of the students who will participate in the closing ceremony next October in the UAE.
The general coordinator of the initiative in Syria, Ali Al-Abbas, presented during the meeting a presentation that included the work stations of the competition in Syria, in which it is participating for the first time, and a number of success stories for the participating students, especially those with disabilities.
Al-Abbas explained that the final number of participants in the competition from Syria amounted to 160 thousand participants, including 7000 students who finished reading 50 books, pointing out that since the beginning of the competition, a work team has been formed at the national level to implement the competition and reach the largest target group and cover remote geographical areas.
The challenge takes the form of a reading competition in the Arabic language, in which students from the first primary to the third secondary grade participate in five stages, each includes reading and summarizing ten books all the way to the finals, which are held in Dubai annually in the month of October.
