The People’s Assembly delegation continues its participation in the meetings of the General Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union

The People’s Assembly delegation, headed by the Assembly’s Secretary Salloum Al-Salloum, met with the Chairman of the Parliamentary Relations and International Cooperation Committee in the Indonesian House of Representatives, Dr. Fadli Zun, on the sidelines of his participation in the work of the 144th Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union.

During the meeting, the two sides stressed the historical depth of relations between Syria and Indonesia, which is consolidated through distinguished parliamentary, economic and cultural relations.

The delegation extended an official invitation to Dr. Zun to visit Syria, who promised to fulfill the invitation in order to hold more parliamentary discussions.

The meeting was attended by Minister Plenipotentiary Abdel Moneim Annan, Chargé d’Affairs of the Syrian Embassy in Jakarta, Chairman of the Syrian-Indonesian Parliamentary Friendship Committee Omar Mahmoud al-Hamdo, and Member of the People’s Assembly Akram Abdul Jaleel.

The People’s Assembly Member Omar Mahmoud al-Hamdo made an intervention in which he pointed out that the Syrian constitution guarantees the protection of human rights and public freedoms and ensures that citizens can exercise them in accordance with the laws, indicating that the unjust terrorist war imposed on Syria for more than ten years and the unilateral coercive measures negatively affected the rights of the Syrian people, especially their right to a decent life and access to the most basic necessities of life such as food, medicine and heating and led to the deterioration of various services, including health .

The delegation also participated in a workshop on health security preparedness, during which the Assembly member Nidal Al-Alou spoke about the suffering of the Syrian people as a result of the terrorist war, unjust economic sanctions and the spread of the Corona epidemic, which led to a severe shortage of medicine in Syria.

The delegation also participated in a panel discussion on the perpetrators of corruption and the recovery of stolen assets in cooperation between the Inter-Parliamentary Union and the Global Organization of Parliamentarians Against Corruption.
