(Steel butterflies) honors women who have surpassed all odds

Damascus (ST): “A Butterfly of Steel” is an event held on the occasion of International Women’s Day, in which Roots Association, in cooperation with the Ministry of Culture, honored 8 distinguished women who were able to overcome difficulties and realize their dreams in various fields, at the Al-Assad National Library in Damascus.

 The Minister of Culture, Dr. Lubana Mushawah, explained that the honored women demonstrated the ability of Syrian women to defy difficulties despite all the circumstances they went through of suffering in daily life, noting that the stories of these women are a lesson and it is useful to spread it to society for the benefit of all women who have similar experiences .

The Chairman of the Board of Directors of Roots Association Kholoud Rajab indicated that choosing the name of the event came to highlight women who have achievements in life and were able to outdo themselves in many stages, noting that the honored women played a really big role in society and continued despite all difficulties.

Among the honorees, Alaa Al-Durra, a breast cancer survivor, said, “I was able to overcome the disease that was in an advanced stage and completed the treatment phase and had a young child and was able to complete her studies in the kindergarten department despite my illness. “She received treatment at the free Al-Biruni University Hospital”. She pointed out that this honor is “psychological support that enhances will and determination.”
