The demands of Damascus journalists reviewed at their annual conference

Damascus (ST): The participants in the annual conference of the Damascus branch of the Union of Journalists discussed the reality of the media and its new law, which is expected to be issued soon, in addition to the mechanism for promoting journalistic work and raising the value of financial compensation for journalists.

The demands of the journalists participating in the conference, which was held at the headquarters of the Al-Wahda Foundation for Printing and Publishing in Damascus under the slogan “Hope for Transparency,” centered on activating the work of the Damascus branch and providing what is possible for the success of its union, professional and social tasks, noting that the granting of a press card in the union and its branches is limited to journalists working in media institutions and private websites to control work and organize it.

The participants called for reconsidering the financial deductions from journalists’ compensation, raising the value of compensation for medical prescriptions and surgical assistance, in addition to increasing the salaries of retired people, working to secure their health, raising loan ceilings, granting soft loans with low interest to those whose service exceeded 25 years in journalistic work, and raising the retirement age for journalists to  sixty five years, like university professors and some unions.

In his speech, Union President Moussa Abdel Nour referred to the media’s role in defending the homeland and facing the ongoing media war against it, calling on everyone to work transparently so that the media person performs his role despite all the troubles and predicaments of the journalism profession.
