Vershinin: Washington abuses its hosting of the United Nations and Russia will resort to arbitration

Moscow (ST): Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Vershinin affirmed that the United States is abusing its capabilities as the host country of the United Nations, pointing to the importance of his country’s role in reforming the UN Security Council.

Vershinin said in a press interview, according to TASS, that his country will resort to arbitration regarding the United States’ abuse of its powers as the host country of the United Nations in issuing visas to Russian diplomats.

He explained that, in essence, the talk is about a clear misuse by the Americans of their capabilities as hosts in terms of ensuring the effectiveness of the work of the United Nations, adding, “We are against this matter and we strongly seek arbitration procedures, which is stipulated in the agreement and the Secretary-General of the United Nations must resort to it.”

Vershinin described the recent US declaration as persona non grata for 12 Russian diplomats to the United Nations and asking them to leave the country as “a flagrant violation by the US side of the obligations that it must bear as a party on whose territory the central bodies of the United Nations are located.”

“We have made repeated attempts with UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres and will continue to work with him because it is necessary to overcome this problem that Americans, for narrow political reasons, do not grant visas to our representatives and representatives of some other countries,” Vershinin said in this regard.
