Kuwaiti writer highlights Syria’s support for Kuwaitis during the invasion of Kuwait

In an article published by the Kuwaiti “Al-Qabas” Newspaper on Wednesday, the Kuwaiti writer Fakhri Hashem Rajab shed light on the supportive stances of the neighboring countries and the countries of resistance, including Syria, upon the Iraqi invasion of Kuwait.

The writer recalled details from the year 1990. He said that he was in Syria when the invasion took place. It was a destructive war that caused much pain to the Kuwaitis and targeted their infrastructure, he added.

“During a whole year, the Syrian Arab Republic spared no effort to provide all forms of services and support for the Kuwaitis, including free medical treatment and education. All this was offered with much love and solidarity,” said the writer speaking about his personal impression.

“Politically and militarily, Syria, led by late President Hafez Al-Assad, didn’t hesitate a moment in supporting Kuwait, stressing in words and deeds that it backs the Arab right. Hence, the Syrian Army was the first to provide support and I don’t think that the Kuwaitis have forgotten this,” Rajab went on to say.

Rajab called for returning the favor for Syria by supporting it against enemies’ schemes.

“Now, eleven years later, isn’t it the time for us to return the favor? Does any of us, Kuwaitis, accept to allow the occupiers to seize our lands and keep silent?” he asked.

“How can we accept that the Syrians allow dividing their territories among the Turks, the Kurds, the militants..etc and do nothing,” he wondered.

The writer explained that the resources of the Syrians, including their oil, are being looted. The Syrian people are suffering woes, yet they have been steadfast and united for more than a decade of war to affirm that they are going ahead with their struggle and reconstruction process and that the so-called opposition abroad has got millions of dollars to destroy the country.

Rajab called for restoring brotherly ties between Kuwait and Syria to face the aspirations of the west in the Arab region.
