A strike in Jabal al-Mukabber, Jerusalem, protesting the demolition of homes by the Israeli occupation
On March 10th, a strike swept through the town of Jabal Mukaber in occupied Jerusalem in protest against the policy of forced displacement and house demolitions pursued by the Israeli occupation authorities against the town’s residents.
Wafa Agency stated that the shops were closed in response to the call of the Jabal Mukaber movement committee as part of a weekly program of solidarity with the townspeople, especially the owners of houses threatened with demolition.
Ibrahim Bashir, the owner of one of the houses threatened with demolition, explained that the events confirm the rejection of the policy of house demolition and forced displacement pursued by the occupation authorities against the Palestinians in Jerusalem at a time when settlement operations are expanding.
The Israeli occupation authorities threaten to demolish 800 homes in the town of Jabal Mukaber in order to establish 500 new settlement units on Palestinian lands in the town.
