The 27 countries of the European Union on Tuesday decided to impose further sanctions on Russia and Belarus on the backdrop of the Russian military operation to protect Donbass.
AFP quoted the French Presidency of the EU as saying in a statement that during their meetings in Brussels, representatives of the member states green lighted the imposition of new sanctions on Russian politicians and businessmen and on three Belarusian banks from the SWIFT banking system.
The new sanctions target the naval sector of the cryptocurrencies, the statement said, adding that “Russian officials and businessmen were added to the blacklist”.
The statement pointed out that these punitive measures aim at completing the three sets of sanctions adopted by the European Union in the past two weeks against both Moscow and Minsk.
