80% of workers in the health sector in Syria are women

Reports by the United Nations affirm that 70% of workers in the health sector around the world are women.

In Syria this percentage approaches 80% which indicates that a major part of the health system in Syria depends on women and the health services they provide, according to Yusra Malil, Assistant Head of the Nursing and Healthcare Syndicate.

Malil said that the Syrian women working in healthcare services have proved effective presence especially during the years of the terrorist war that hit Syria.

 Also, their tireless work during the Corona pandemic crisis has been very effective in confronting the disease. They dedicated their efforts and time to work and risked their lives in order to provide health services to the corona patients. Several nurses and healthcare providers died after being infected with the virus, Malil addd.

She stressed the need to support all the women who are working in the health sector, such as granting them financial incentives to help them overcome the difficulties they face in their lives in the light of the difficult economic circumstances in the country.

Head of the Nursing Department at the Red Crescent Hospital Ola Ahmad affirmed that nursing is a difficult profession due to the work pressure and the risks that face the nurses at work especially in the light of the spread of the Corona pandemic, but, at the same time, it is a humanitarian profession that has to do with saving lives and this encourages the nurses to exert their utmost efforts.
