Ambassador Khaddour: Russia is a responsible country and is aware of the importance of the security and safety of nuclear facilities in Ukraine

Vienna (ST): Syria’s permanent representative to the United Nations Office and other international organizations in Vienna, Ambassador Dr. Hassan Khaddour, stressed that what is currently happening in Ukraine is the result of ignoring Russia’s legitimate security rights, with the continued flow of weapons and missiles into Ukraine without any calculations.

During the extraordinary session held by the Board of Governors of the International Atomic Energy Agency in Vienna to discuss the repercussions of the situation in Ukraine on the security and safety of nuclear facilities, Ambassador Khaddour reiterated in his statement Syria’s supportive position to Russia, stressing that it has the right to defend itself and to remove the threats to its people represented by the attempts of the United States and some countries.

Khaddour said that what is currently happening in Ukraine is due to the ignoring of the legitimate security concerns of the Russian Federation and the flow of weapons and missiles into Ukraine without any calculations of the consequences for the security and stability of the region, despite the fact that the Russian Federation has consistently presented practical proposals and exercised the highest levels of restraint towards all attempts to escalate.
