Beijing, (ST) – Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi stressed that the security of any country cannot be ensured by expanding military blocs. He called for respect for the security concerns of all countries.
“China’s basic position on the Ukrainian issue is open, transparent and consistent,” Wang said during a telephone conversation with Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba, reported by Xinhua. He said that China has always advocated respecting the sovereignty, unity and territorial integrity of all countries.
The Chinese minister reiterated his country’s call to the international community to find a solution to the Ukraine crisis through negotiations. He said that, “China supports all constructive international efforts that lead to a political settlement of the crisis.”
Wang expressed China’s support and encouragement for all diplomatic efforts conducive to the peaceful settlement of the Ukraine crisis, and welcomed the talks between Russia and Ukraine.
The Chinese foreign minister expressed his country’s belief that the UN Security Council should play a constructive role in resolving the Ukraine issue.
The Chinese minister stressed that his country will continue its firm rejection of all forms of hegemony and powerful forces, and will firmly defend the legitimate and legal rights and interests of developing countries, especially small and medium-sized countries.
