The Governor of Al-Hasakah discusses with the delegation of the World Food Program the reality of relief work

Al-Hasakah Governor Ghassan Khalil affirmed the governorate’s readiness to provide everything necessary to facilitate the work of the World Food Program in order to accomplish its relief work in the governorate with a view to help alleviate the suffering of civilians.

Khalil indicated during his meeting with the delegation of the World Food Program headed by the regional deputy of the Program, “Ross Alan Smith,” that the presence of the American and Turkish occupation forces, terrorist organizations and the “Qasad” militia contributes directly to the restrictions on the people and draining the country’s resources through their continued theft and looting of Syrian wealth.

During the meeting, the directors of the service departments in the governorate drew attention to the need of supporting the bakery sector by increasing the number of production lines, creating additional lines in the governorate’s countryside, expanding the Hamo bakery in the Qamishli countryside, and increasing livelihood projects, specifically beekeeping, sheep-breeding, home gardens and vegetable cultivation, as these means contribute to ensuring financial stability for families and securing raw materials for local markets.

The directors of the departments also called for improving the quality of the food basket by studying the possibility of manufacturing it locally or converting to the voucher system.

For his part, the regional representative of the World Food Program referred to the Program’s efforts and its relief role in the region and its continuous endeavor to increase the number of beneficiaries of the assistance the Program provides throughout the territory of Syria, as the Program targeted 7 million citizens with food aid during the past year, adding, “We hope that the number will be increased during the current year and focus on supporting the livelihood projects that contribute to a stable economic income for needy families.
