Abdullahian: Reaching an agreement in Vienna requires real Western will

On February 24th, Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir Abdullahian stressed that reaching an agreement in the Vienna talks requires a real will from the Western parties.

The Iranian news agency IRNA quoted a Foreign Ministry statement as saying that Abdullahian stressed, during a telephone conversation with his British counterpart, Liz Truss, that reaching a permanent agreement with the West that guarantees Iran’s interests requires from his country a real will to take a brave and realistic political decision.

Abdullahian hoped that the European countries participating in these talks would play a constructive and required role.

The two sides stressed that repaying Britain’s overdue debt to Iran is one of the main issues between them and that it is necessary to settle in an appropriate manner as soon as possible.

For her part, Truss clarified London’s views on the latest developments in bilateral relations and talks to solve the debt problem of Iran and the Vienna negotiations.

She said: “We have achieved good results in the negotiation process so far, but it is appropriate to complete the talks as soon as possible and reach an agreement that satisfies both parties.”

She expressed her hope that the issues will be resolved between both countries in the near future.
