Shoukry to Pedersen: Any solution to the crisis in Syria must guarantee its sovereignty over its entire territory
On February 21st, Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry affirmed that any solution to the crisis in Syria must guarantee its sovereignty over its entire territory and preserve the independence of its decisions.
Foreign Ministry spokesman Ahmed Hafez stated that Shoukry received a phone call from the Special Envoy of the Secretary-General of the United Nations to Syria Geir Pedersen, within the framework of coordination and periodic consultation regarding developments on the Syrian arena.
Hafez added: “Minister Shoukry affirmed Egypt’s keenness to advance the political process in Syria and stressed the need for a comprehensive settlement of the crisis to ensure Syria’s extension of its sovereignty over its entire national territory in a manner that preserves the independence of its political decision and puts an end to the repercussions of the humanitarian crisis on the brotherly Syrian people.
In turn, Pedersen briefed the Egyptian minister on the current moves and contacts in an effort to move the paths of a political settlement of the crisis in Syria.
