Al-Miqdad, Lavrov start their talks in Moscow

MOSCOW, Feb.21, (ST)-The Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Faisal Al-Miqdad and his Russian counterpart Sergey Lavrov started on Monday their talks in Moscow, according to the Syrian Arab News Agency (SANA).

The agency quoted Al-Miqdad as saying that the main goal of Syria and Russia is to achieve stability and peace all over the world, referring to Russia’s key role in this filed in the Middle East and in Europe as well.

The Minister also affirmed that the campaign being waged by the West against Russia is similar to the one that was waged against Syria.

For his part, Lavrov said: “We will go ahead with our joint work to reach a political solution to the crisis in Syria within the framework that preserves its sovereignty, safety and territorial integrity.”

During a joint press conference held after the talks, Lavrov stressed the need to offer humanitarian aid to those who are in need in Syria far from politicization and with the contribution of international community in reconstruction process.

He condemned Israeli attacks on Syrian territories, saying that these attacks destabilize the region.

Western countries are trying to create an almost irresolvable confrontation between Russia and the North Atlantic Alliance,” Lavrov said.

“The situation in the world is unfolding quickly, it particularly concerns the Middle East and North Africa issues. Most regrettably, the efforts we are making to implement United Nations Security Council Resolution 2254 are being affected by the atmosphere that our Western colleagues are creating, trying to start an almost irresolvable confrontation between Russia and the Western alliance,” he pointed out.

“We definitely will not let such attempts undermine our ability to reach specific results and negatively impact the progress of the closest strategic relations between Russia and Syria, as well as our efforts to achieve a fair peace based on strengthening the sovereignty, territorial integrity and political independence of your country,” the Russian foreign minister emphasized, addressing his Syrian counterpart.

The Russian top diplomat also noted that the two countries’ presidents continued to outline the goals that Moscow and Damascus were facing, which was confirmed by their contact in September 2021. “I am sure that today, we will be able to meaningfully discuss ways to promote these goals and achieve them,” Lavrov clarified.

Al-Miqdad told reporters in the press conference that Syria stands by the stances of President Putin and his credibility in dealing with international affairs.

“The Syrian-Russian relations enhance as the two countries believe in improving situation in the region and the world as well,” he declared.

Western economic sanctions on Syria are immoral

Moreover, Al-Miqdad described the economic sanctions being imposed on Syria as immoral and raised the following question addressing  the Europeans peoples and leaders:  Where are the morals that you call for in your statements in the General Assembly and the United Nations? You  know that these sanctions kill the children of Syria and complicate the economic crisis in the country.

“ Before the start of the terrorist war, which has been supported by these western countries, Syria was achieving annual development reached to 9%,” Al-Miqdad added.

He asserted that what is happening in Syria and Ukraine serve the western institutes that seeks to keep the world under its control.

As for the Israeli attacks on Syria, the minister made it clear that these acts of the Zionist occupation [Israel] violate UN resolutions and come within the framework of defending its terrorist allies inside Syria.

He also indicated that the illegal presence of the US forces in northeast Syria does not only back the separatist agendas but also has displaced 400.000 Syrian. “The US continues to invest in terrorism as it has conveyed hundreds of terrorists from Syria to other countries in the world with the aim of implementing its political agenda.”

Yesterday, Al-Miqdad told RT that prolonging the terrorist war on Syria would allow more time to harm it and pass some conspiracies against it, especially by the Turkish regime, which occupies parts of its northwest, and by the United States, which occupies other parts of its northeastern and supports separatist movements in it.

He added that the intensity of the war that Syria was subjected to began to decline due to the steadfastness of the Syrian Arab Army and the people’s support for its leadership, pointing out that Syria seeks to end the Turkish and American occupation of some areas by all means and stop their theft of Syrian resources.

In this context, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Michael Bogdanov stressed that the presence of the US troops in Syria is illegal and it is clear that their battle there is not against terrorism.
