Kidnapped Syrian child Fawaz Al-Qteifan released after three-month abduction

Kidnapped Syrian child Fawaz Al-Qteifan was released this evening. He is in a good health condition, according to SANA reporter in Daraa

The 8-year-old child was kidnapped three months ago in the town of Ibtaa in Daraa countryside while on his way to school. Kidnappers demanded a huge ransom to release him (around 400 million Syria Pounds).

The family managed desperately to secure the ransom after selling everything they own.

Daraa Police Commander Brigadier General Dirar Al-Dandal said that the authorities had been in regular contacts with Fawaz’s family from the first moment of the kidnapping so they can get any information that help them identify the perpetrators.

He explained that the kidnappers contacted the child’s family on Saturday and asked his father to go to Nawa city, specifically to an area near the grain silos along the road towards Al-Qunaitra governorate and where armed groups and outlaws are active.  He added that after the parents of Fawaz arrived in the area carrying the ransom, the kidnappers set the child free, pointing out that the policemen didn’t interfere in order to protect the life of the child as the abductors have threatened to kill him.

Al-Dandal reiterated that the police force will relentlessly work as to arrest members of the gang that abducted Fawaz.

A recent shocking video showed Fawaz Al-Qteifan being brutally beaten by kidnappers. The video sparked strong reactions on social media.
