Syria and Iraq discuss priority issues in the hydrological program plan

The Syrian and Iraqi national committees of the International Hydrological Program of UNESCO discussed today, Thursday, the 10th of February 2022 the strategic plan for the ninth phase of the program on research and management of water issues. Discussions have been carried out through a virtual meeting held for this purpose.

The two sides discussed the implementation of priority topics in the program plan, which focus on scientific research, innovation and water awareness to serve sustainability, knowledge gaps, and integrated water resources management in light of climate changes and mechanisms of adaptation and mitigation of its effects.

The meeting comes within the framework of developing water cooperation between the two countries and in implementation of what was agreed upon during the visit of the Iraqi Minister of Water Resources Mahdi Rashid Al-Hamdani to Syria earlier this February.

The International Hydrological Program is the only United Nations intergovernmental program concerned with research and management of water issues.
