Russia: The West should think about the danger of deploying US nuclear weapons in Europe

Moscow (ST): Russia announced its rejection of the West’s double-standard stance regarding the deployment of US nuclear weapons in Europe, stressing that this West should think about the real danger of deploying US nuclear weapons in Europe instead of fearing the hypothetical threat of deploying Russian nuclear weapons in Belarus.

According to RIA Novosti, Director of the Non-Proliferation and Arms Control Department of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Vladimir Yermakov, said: “The question arises whether our European colleagues do not see a threat to their security not in the hypothesis of the deployment of weapons in Belarus, rather than the actual deployment on the territory of a number of NATO countries of American nuclear weapons capable to hit targets in Russia.”

Yermakov stressed that the participation of non-nuclear European countries in the joint nuclear missions of NATO directly contradicts their basic obligations under the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons, adding, “We reject such duplicity of Western countries.”
