Oil Ministry: Total loss of the oil sector since the beginning of the war on Syria reached 100.5 bln USD

The Ministry of Oil and Mineral resources has revealed that the total direct and indirect losses of the Syrian oil sector have reached 100.5 billion USD since the beginning of the war on Syria, according to a report published by the Syrian Arab News Agency (SANA).

During a meeting dedicated for reviewing what has been implemented from the ministry’s last year plan, the ministry clarified that oil production last year reached 31.4 million barrels (about 85.9 thousand barrels per day). Only 16,000  barrels go to the country’s refineries daily, while 70,000 barrels are daily looted by the US occupation forces and their mercenaries and affiliated militia from the oil fields in the occupied areas in Syria’s eastern region.

Moreover, the ministry said that natural gas production reached 4.5 billion cubic meters last year (about 12.5 million cubic meters a day). 79% of this quantity goes to the Ministry of Electricity, 6% to the Industry Ministry and 15% to the Ministry of Oil and Mineral Resources.

According to the ministry, the total production of domestic gas reached 118,000 tons last year (about 323 tons per day). 48,000 tons from refineries and 70,000 tons from gas plants.

The ministry’s figures indicate that around 5.7 million tons of oil derivatives were refined in Homs and Banias oil refineries. 944,000 tons of premium gasoline, 11,000 tons of regular gasoline, 1.519 million tons  of diesel oil, 2.734 million tons of fuel, 77,000 tons of Asphalt, 1.1 million tons of phosphate and 113,000 tons of salt are produced in the refineries last year.

During the past ten years of war on Syria, 235 workers in the oil sector were martyred, 46 were wounded and 112 were kidnapped, the ministry affirmed.
