Beijing (ST): Russian President Vladimir Putin and Chinese President Xi Jinping today signed a joint statement between the two countries regarding sustainable development and the entry of international relations into a new era, following talks between the two sides on the sidelines of the opening ceremony of the Winter Olympics in Beijing.
Putin said during the talks: “As for our bilateral relations, they are gradually developing in the spirit of friendship and strategic partnership, have acquired an unprecedented character and are an example of worthy relations that help each other to develop and at the same time support each other.”
Putin expressed his confidence that Russian and Chinese athletes will do well at the Olympics.
For his part, Ping said that China and Russia firmly support efforts to safeguard their major interests in the world, adding that the political and strategic mutual trust between Beijing and Moscow continues to grow.
Ping noted that despite the COVID-19 pandemic, China and Russia remain committed to the sustainable development of bilateral ties, and firmly support efforts to safeguard their core interests.
Ping pointed out that China and Russia are working together to implement true multilateralism, which serves as a pillar for uniting the world in overcoming crises.
The statement signed after the talks said that Russia and China pledged to confront any outside interference in the internal affairsof sovereign countries under any pretext.
