President Putin awards the Order of Friendship to a Syrian doctor

On February 2nd, Russian President Vladimir Putin awarded the Syrian ophthalmologist Dr. Youssef Naim Youssef the Order of Friendship in the Kremlin for his distinguished scientific achievements and practical activity in the field of eye surgery.

At a medal awarding  ceremony  held for  Russian citizens for important achievements in various fields, President Putin said: “Each of you has his own destiny and way of life, but what unites you all is the quest to serve the country and society.”

Putine said: “Your achievements continue to open new horizons in various fields, serve the contemporary development of Russia and contribute to a premium Russia.”

 

For his part, Dr. Youssef affirmed, after awarding the medal, that this honor is a great honor for him and a great responsibility, noting the great achievements made by Russia under the leadership of President Putin during the last twenty years.

Dr. Youssef referred to the positive changes that occurred in the work of the Institute of Ophthalmology, which he heads in Moscow, whether in the field of scientific studies or medical treatment, and its transition to using innovation and creativity methods in detecting and treating eye diseases.

Dr. Youssef indicated that work is currently underway with the Institute’s efforts to establish international scientific, therapeutic and educational centers, especially in his mother country, Syria.

It is noteworthy that Dr. Youssef was born in Daraa in 1963. He graduated from the Institute of Medicine in 1989 and obtained a doctorate in 1998 and a state doctorate in 2000.
