Bratislava (ST): The Slovak Communist Party renewed its rejection of the country’s government signing a military agreement that allows the United States to deploy its forces on the country’s territory, considering that this agreement is “humiliating and harmful to the country.”
The party said in a statement issued today that “this agreement will increase the risks of the use of weapons of mass destruction and will not lead to lasting peace and security in Europe.”
The agreement includes the possibility for US forces to use two Slovak military airports for a period of 10 years and to grant members of these forces immunity from the Slovak penal law.
The Slovak opposition is scheduled to organize a protest demonstration today to demand that the deputies not ratify the agreement that will be signed tomorrow in Washington, after the government insisted on proceeding with it despite the popular and political opposition to it.
