More than 3.6 million students receive free education in schools and institutes of the Ministry of Education

More than 3.6 million students are currently receiving free education in schools and institutes of the Ministry of Education in various governorates, distributed among 13,660 kindergartens, schools and institutes, according to the data of the Ministry of Education.

In a statement to SANA, Minister of Education Dr. Darem Tabbaa noted that the ministry is working to raise the level of education in terms of quantity and quality in order to keep pace with international standards and indicators, to achieve safe and equitable access to education, link education to the labor market, and provide the requirements of the educational process in accordance with the government statement and priorities. The total number of students in the various stages of education has now reached 3651,923, while the number of administrative and teaching staffhas reached 27,070.

 

Minister Tabbaa announced that the ministry annually prints about 40 million textbooks at a cost of more than 12 billion Syrian pounds. They are distributed to pupils and students for the stages of kindergarten and basic education free of charge and at nominal prices in secondary education and institutes. It also equipped laboratories and secured learning technologies. The Ministry, through its educational platforms, provides direct communication between the teacher and the learner according to daily programs in which lessons are presented on the developed curricula, and the questions received on the platform are answered by the Ministry of Education’s mentors and teachers in all subjects.

Minister Tabaa asserted that the Ministry provides free health services to students and administrative and teaching staffers through 145 school clinics affiliated to the Directorate of School Health in various governorates.

Minister Tabbaa noted that education in Syria is characterized by strengths that contributed to raising the indicators of its growth and development in terms of quality, in addition to that it is free and compulsory up to the basic education certificate.

Regarding the effects of the terrorist war that Syria was subjected to on the education sector, Minister Tabbaa pointed out that the ministry has intensified programs and plans to remove these effects by addressing school dropouts and educational loss compensation programs for students who were in areas controlled by terrorist organizations or for students who returned to their areas after liberating them from terrorism. It also restored the destroyed schools and putting them into service again.
