Al-Zamel: Syria offers all facilities to complete electricity transfer deal from Jordan to Lebanon

BEIRUT, Jan.25, (ST)-The Minister of Electricity Ghassan Al-Zamil said on Tuesday that President Bashar al-Assad has ordered to provide all needed assistance to facilitate the transfer of electricity from Jordan to Lebanon through Syria.
 
“I conveyed to the Lebanese President, Michel Aoun, during my meeting with him, President Bashar Al-Assad’s greetings, and we clarified President al-Assad’s directives to provide all assistance and facilitations to carry out this project,” Al-Zamel said in a press conference with his Lebanese counterpart Walid Fayyad in Beirut.
 
He noted that the rehabilitation of Syria’s power network was completed by the end of 2021 to allow the transfer of electricity from Jordan to Lebanon.
 
The minister in addition referred to the importance of his current visit to Lebanon as it comes with the framework of activating  Arab-Arab cooperation in general. 
 
He told the Syrian Arab New Agency (SANA ) that the electricity transfer deal that will be signed tomorrow in Beirut will help achive stability in the Syrian electricity system.
 
The deal will provide Lebanon with up to 250 megawatts of electricity during the day and 150 megawatts at night, equivalent to a total of two additional hours of power, according to Lebanon’s Minister Walid Fayad.
