Tehran, (ST)- Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesman, Abbas Araqchi has criticized allegations on Iran’s sending weapons to Syria through the Iraqi airspace.
Araqchi, who dismissed the claims as “groundless”, said in a statement on Thursday that the “allegations are being deliberately raised by the parties training and arming the terrorists and outlaws who are fighting the Syrian government in order to hinder the international community’s efforts to find a political solution to the crisis in Syria.”
“The Iraqi government has conducted undeclared inspection of some Iranian planes bound for Syria and officially announced that these planes were not carrying any military equipment,” the Iranian diplomat said.
Araqchi pointed out that senior Iraqi officials and inspection teams affirmed that the products sent by Iran to Syria via Iraqi airspace were nothing but humanitarian food and medical aid.
