United Nations calls for an end to the occupation of Palestinian territories

The United Nations envoy to the Middle East, Tor Wencesland, called for an end to the Israeli occupation of the occupied Palestinian territories and not to displace Palestinians from their homes in the occupied city of Jerusalem.

“We call on the Israeli authorities to end the displacement of Palestinians and not to evacuate them from their homes in Sheikh Jarrah neighborhood and Silwan town in the occupied city of Jerusalem, in accordance with international law,” Wenceland said in a statement he gave during the regular session of the UN Security Council held on Wednesday at the UN headquarters in New York. He noted that occupation’s judaizing measures will exacerbate tension in the region.

In turn, four European countries called on the Israeli occupation to stop its settlement and Judaization plans in the occupied city of Jerusalem, stressing that these measures would hinder the establishment of a Palestinian state.

In a joint statement by France, Germany, Spain and Italy, these countries stressed that the Israeli settlements are a flagrant violation of international law and hamper the achievement of a just and comprehensive peace.
