Chinese Foreign Ministry Spokesman Zhao Lijian stressed that the United States continues to talk about democracy and human rights, but does not apply any of this preaching.
Commenting on a documentary broadcast by Danish Radio about the CIA’s secret experiments on 311 Danish children in the 1960s, Zhao was quoted by Xinhua as saying that “US intelligence violations of human rights around the world are not new news, still, the revelation that US intelligence exploited children is shocking.”
Zhao explained that between the 1950s and 1970s, the CIA carried out a secret project aimed at controlling minds, and the people who were tested suffered lifelong consequences, including mental disorders, memory loss or complete paralysis. The Chinese official called on the United States to apologize for its actions, compensate the victims and bear responsibility towards them.
