HASAKAH, Jan.18, (ST)-In cooperation with the World Health Organization (WHO), the Health Directorate of Hasakah province sent on Tuesday mobile teams to treat Leishmaniasis in the western countryside of the province.
According to the Director of Health Directorate Dr. Issa Khalaf, the campaign of treating Leishmaniasis will cover 13 towns within four days out of each week for 2 months.
He clarified that Leishmaniasis has recently spread in towns located on the side of the Khabour River and it is transmitted via the bite of infected sand flies.
Dr. Khalaf pointed out that the campaign of treating Leishmaniasis in the southern countryside of Hasakah will last for 3 months in cooperation with the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC).
He concluded by saying that mobile teams have treated 1400 people infected with Leishmaniasis in the southern countryside of Hasakah so far.
