Iranian-Syrian relations are close and strategic, Iranian Foreign Ministry says

Tehran, (ST) – Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesman Saeed Khatibzadeh reiterated that relations between Iran and Syria are close and strategic. He pointed out that Iran is determined to move forward with firm steps in preserving Syria’s territorial integrity, independence and sovereignty.

 “The Syrian-Iranian relations are close and being followed up at the strategic levels”, Khatibzadeh added.

In his weekly press conference on Monday, Khatibzadeh denounced the repeated Zionist attacks on Syrian lands and sovereignty. He stressed that the hostile countries must correct their mistakes and stop attacking the Syrian people, calling on all countries to respect Syrian national sovereignty. He also called on Western countries that impose unilateral coercive economic measures on Syria to lift and end these measures.

 Regarding the Vienna talks, Khatibzadeh noted that the emphasis will be placed on  fully lifting the the sanctions imposed on Iran which contradict the nuclear deal.

He noted that the Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Rafael Grossi would travel to Tehran soon to hold talks with the head of Atomic Energy Organization of Iran (AEOI).
