President Al-Assad to Iranian minister: Setting up new projects is important

DAMASCUS, Jan.12, (ST)- President Bashar Al-Assad received on Wednesday Iranian delegation headed by Chairman of the Iranian side in the Syrian-Iranian Economic Committee Rostam Ghasemi, who occupies the position of the Minister of Road and Urban Development in Iran. 
 
According to the Syrian Arab News Agency (SANA), the talks between the two sides dealt with bilateral relations between Syria and Iran in the economic field. 
 
President Al-Assad asserted the need to set up new projects with the aim of realizing joint strategic interests and connecting the business sectors of the two countries. 
 
The ways of expanding bilateral cooperation in public and private sectors and encouraging joint investments were also on the table. 
 
For his part, the Iranian minister reiterated his country’s firm support of the Syrian people in fighting terrorism and  in expanding cooperation with Syria in all fields for the common interest of the  two friendy peoples. 
 
Ghasemi also held talks with the Syrian Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Faisal Al-Miqdad over issues of common interest. 
 
The talks focused on the necessity of upgrading the economic relations in order to reach the level of the joint political relations. 
 
Ghasemi referred to the determination of Iran and Syria to reach a real commercial and economic partnership. He clarified that his visit to Damascus aims to hold consultations on reactivating economic relations, especially land and maritime connection, and increasing flights between the two countries as well as the movement of goods  and services and increasing the commercial exchange.
