Syria, China sign MOU within the framework of the 21st Century Maritime Silk Road

DAMASCUS, Jan.12, (ST)-Syria and China signed on Wednesday a memorandum of understanding that comes within the framework of the 21st Century Maritime Silk Road.

The signing ceremony took place at the headquarters of the Planning and International Cooperation Commission in Damascus.

According to the signed memo Syria joins the initiative and this will lead to opening  new horizons of cooperation with China and several partner countries in the fields of exchanging culture, goods, technology and capital and reactivate the movement of individuals.

The memo defines the goals of the future cooperation with partner countries and its fields as well as the ways of reaching these goals.

Chairman of the Planning and International Cooperation Commission Fadi Khalil and China’s Ambassador in Damascus Feng Biao signed the memo.

The 21st Century Maritime Silk Road is a key component of China’s Belt and Road Initiative and, as such, can play a crucial role in the development of maritime infrastructure throughout Asia and the Pacific in the coming years.
