Ambassador Sabbagh participates in the inauguration ceremony of the elected President of Nicaragua

Managua, (ST) – On behalf of President Bashar Al-Assad and the Government of the Syrian Arab Republic, Ambassador Bassam Sabbagh, Permanent Representative to the United Nations and non-resident Ambassador to Nicaragua, congratulated Nicaraguan President Daniel Ortega on his re-election for a new presidential term.

This came during the inauguration ceremony of President Ortega and the constitutional oath, which was held yesterday in the National Assembly Square in the capital, Managua, with the participation of local and international people, and in the presence of Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro, Cuban President Miguel Diaz-Canel, Honduran President Juan Orlando Hernandez, Iranian Vice President and Special Envoy of the Chinese President and representatives of heads of governments of other countries.

 Ambassador Sabbagh conveyed to President Ortega the greetings of President Al-Assad and his best wishes for success and his full solidarity with the friendly people of Nicaragua to achieve further progress and prosperity.

For his part, President Ortega conveyed to Ambassador Sabbagh his greetings and thanks to President Al-Assad, expressing his appreciation for the steadfastness of the Syrian people, who have bravely defended their country’s sovereignty and independence.

In his speech after taking the constitutional oath, President Ortega indicated that his government will work to improve the living conditions of the people of Nicaragua and strengthen its relations with other countries. He stressed that the sanctions imposed by the United States will not change his country’s approach and policy.

On the sidelines of President Ortega’s inauguration ceremony, Ambassador Sabbagh met, during his stay in the capital, Managua, with Nicaraguan Foreign Minister Denis Moncada, where they discussed with him bilateral relations between the two countries and means of developing and enhancing these relations in various fields, including benefiting from the experiences and expertise of both countries in facing challenges.

For his part, Minister Moncada expressed his appreciation for Syria’s solidarity with Nicaragua and its participation in this important occasion, his pride in the friendly relations between the two countries and their peoples, and his aspiration to enhance prospects of cooperation between them to serve their common interests.

Moncada stressed that just as Syria has won in the military field and in the fight against terrorism, it will also triumph over the unilateral coercive economic measures imposed by the United States and the European Union.
