Palestinian prisoner in the Israeli occupation jails Nasser Abu Hamid, who suffers from cancer, is still in a critical health condition fighting for his life, the Palestinian Prisoners’ Affairs Commission has stressed, calling on the international community to pressure the occupation forces to release him.
The Spokesman of the Commission Hassan Abed Rabbo said in a statement to WAFA news agency that the health condition of Abu Hamid, who was detained in 2002, has notably deteriorated since last August after being diagnosed with lung cancer.
Though Abu Hamid has undergone surgery to take out the tumor last October, the occupation authorities insisted on returning him to prison before completing his scheduled chemotherapy, a matter that worsened his condition, Abed Rabbo added.
He pointed out that the commission has made contacts with the International Committee of the Red Cross as well as the international legal institutions, calling on them to put pressure on the Israeli occupation authorities to release Abu Hamid as well as the rest of the ill prisoners, whose continuous detention is a kind of torture for which the occupation officials should be held accountable.
