Damascus, (ST) – Dr. Faisal Miqdad, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates, carried out a phone call with his Russian counterpart, Sergey Lavrov, in which they discussed the developments of the situation in Syria and the world. The two sides focused on prospects for deepening cooperation between the two countries, the latest developments in the Astana process and the next round of meetings of the Constitutional Committee.
The two ministers exchanged views on the implementation of UN resolutions related to the humanitarian issue in Syria and the importance of expanding humanitarian activities to include early recovery projects and rehabilitation of infrastructure destroyed by terrorism, in line with the Resolution 2585.
Minister Miqdad also condemned the Western escalation towards the Russian Federation, considering these hostile policies and campaigns as a threat to peace and stability in the region and the world.
For his part, Minister Lavrov affirmed Russia’s principled positions in confronting these hostile policies and Russia’s firm support for the unconditional respect for Syria’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.
The two ministers also discussed preparations for the upcoming visit of Minister Miqdad to Moscow and agreed to continue coordination and cooperation between the two sides regarding all files of common interest.
