The Ministry of Agriculture to hold a central festival marking the 70th Arbor Day on Thursday
Marking the 70th Arbor Day, the Ministry of Agriculture will hold on Thursday a central festival at Al-Jweirat site in Qudsayya area in Damascus countryside under the title “The Tree is the Lung of Life”.
Director of the Ministry’s Forestry Department Ali Thabet said in a statement to SANA that this year’s festival will include the forestation of an area of 7.5 hectares with 4500 various trees, including fruit pine, the Lebanese cedar and the oak in accordance with the environmental, climatic and soil conditions of the area.
He pointed out that concerned bodies in the ministry will provide these trees with protection from any kind of damage so that they form a core for a future forest that increases the green area and restores the surrounding natural forests.
Thabet clarified that the ministry aims at deepening the concept of sustainability in planting forest trees that contribute to supporting the national economy and food security by promoting biodiversity.
He called on all categories of the Syrian society to take part in this activity to boost the culture of planting forest trees.
