The death of Desmond Tutu, one of the most prominent symbols of the struggle against the apartheid regime in South Africa

Archbishop Desmond Tutu, former archbishop of South Africa and one of the most prominent symbols of the struggle against the apartheid regime in his country, died on December 26that the age of 90. 
 
The French Press Agency reported that South African President Cyril Ramaphosa announced in a presidential statement the death of Toto, expressing deep sorrow for his death and noting that he was a prominent face of history in his country.
 
It is noteworthy that Tutu had a major role in the struggle against apartheid in South Africa for decades.  
 
He was elected Archbishop of Cape Town in 1986. He received the Nobel Peace Prize in 1984, the Albert Schweizer Humanitarian Prize, the Freedom Prize in 1986, and the Gandhi Peace Prize in 2007.
