The Christian community all over Syria today is celebrating Christmas, the birth of Jesus Christ, the messenger of peace and amity.
On this occasion, the Christian denominations on Saturday held prayers and divine masses at the country’s churches and worshipping places.
Sermons on this Day highlighted the sublime meaning of Christmas and urged strengthening the feelings of amity, unity and cooperation among the Syrians for peace and stability to prevail countrywide.
During the divine mass held at the St. George Patriarchal Cathedral in Bab Touma, Damascus, Patriarch Ignatius Aphrem II, Patriarch of Antioch and All the East, Supreme Head of Universal Syriac Orthodox Church, congratulated the Syrian people, who withstood the terrorist war on their country, on glorious Christmas expressing his hope that security and stability will soon return to Syria.
He called on the international community to assume it responsibility towards stopping the unjust blockade imposed on the Syrian people.
Yesterday, the Christians all over the country celebrated Christmas also through holding prayers and divine masses.
Patriarch Yusuf Absi of Antioch and All East for the Melkite Greek Catholics, during the mass held at the Cathedral of the Dormition of Our Lady in Damascus, called on all people to use their talents and freedom to serve the greater good of humanity, and urged the Syrians to maintain their adherence to their homeland and to join efforts as to rebuild what the terrorist war has destroyed in the country.
